Our pumpkin is "done"

BARELY, barely made it to double digits: 10.0 pounds.

Not round or perfect, not gargantuan (not even focused), but, it's ours.
=)

Predicted low last night was 31F,
so Samantha picked it.
Actual low was 35F.

However, it'd stopped growing, so, there she is.
Team Grommet's 2013 submission.

So, next year, we're thinking:

The Great Tomatillo Grow

as an alternate contest.
Most tomatillos (by weight?) from one plant.
More drought savvy, more global climate change friendly.

With extra points allocated for documenting
and identifying the pollinators upon said plant
throughout the summer.

What other measures of gardening merit do you value?
Happy to bat ideas about on the subject.

Humbly submitted,

  1. A credible entry under difficult circumstances! (In defense of Team Virginia, commercial pumpkin operations lost entire crops here this year.) I'm not sure about this tomatillo idea, but I'm game if you've got a salsa verde recipe for me. I love salsa verde. I think the winner gets to name the rules for the next year's contest, though.

    1. That seems reasonable. =) Yeah, that's the thing about gardening. Year to year, it's ALWAYS different. xo
